Student Email - Frequently Asked Questions

How do I log in to my ECU email account?

To access Student Webmail, simply click here. If you’re not sure what your user name and password is, go to our Central Authentication System webpage to find out everything you need to know about logging in.

For more information on your student computing accounts, click here.

I've forgotten my username or password?

No problems. For assistance with your username or password issues, simply visit the staff at any of the following locations:

You can also phone the IT Service Desk to obtain a password reset.

Why do we need a new student email system?

The old student email system was finding it hard to cope with the needs of 23,000 students. Our new Mirapoint Messaging system is designed to handle a large number of users and is faster, more secure and more reliable.

Do I have to have an ECU email account?

Yes! From April, 2004 ECU will gradually stop posting a lot of its correspondence to students and start emailing it to them instead. If you don’t check your email, you’ll miss out on vital information like re-enrolment periods, exam timetables and semester results.

What if I don’t have access to a computer?

If you’re an on campus or metropolitan student, just visit your nearest ECU eLab or Library. Otherwise, try your local library or an internet café – you’ll find that you can log on just about anywhere. If you don’t have computer or internet access and it’s impossible for you to gain access, don’t worry. We can continue to post your information to you as long as you can demonstrate that it is too difficult for you to access your email – just fill in our Request for Hard Copy Correspondence form and send it back to us as soon as you can.

However, we strongly recommend that you try to organise internet and email access if you don’t already have it. In today’s university environment it’s important that you make the most of information technology. You can use the internet to help you with your studies and research, and by using email you’ll receive information from us much faster than you used to. As an ECU student you already have free internet access – click here to find out how.

Do I have to access my student email via the web?

Not necessarily. ECU Student Webmail is a web based email application and most students will find it easiest to access their email via the web. However, if you are using an email client such as Outlook Express, you should be able to configure your email to receive ECU email. Click on these links to find out how:

What’s my email address?

Your email address is <ADS username>@student.ecu.edu.au. Most student email addresses will be in the format jbloggs@student.ecu.edu.au.
