As apart of our service portfolio, IT Support Services provides on-campus computing facilities for general access by all students, simply know as the Elab.

What are the Elabs?
The Elabs are a general computing facility available for the use of all enrolled students at ECU. They are available for assignment work, research, and other uses related to your course of studies.

What's available?
Each Elab has a mix of both PC's and MAC 's with the latest software, plus other applications if specifically requested by Lecturing Staff. Each Elab is equipped with high-volume printers for both Black and White & Colour* printing. Further information regarding printing, including costs and how to use the service can be found at the Student Printing site.
Additionally, scanners are also available in some locations.

When are they open?
Elabs are available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. Please note that access outside of normal university business hours is restricted to those persons possessing an After-hours access card.
Additionally, the Elab may be closed during the Christmas Shutdown. Please refer to notices placed within the Elab, or on IT Newswire.
What are the conditions of use?
Use of the Elabs is governed by our Acceptable Use of Information Systems Policy.
We would ask in accordance with the conditions and as a courtesy to other students, you would comply with the proper conduct rules outlined in the policy.
These conditions include but are not limited to ensuring noise is kept to a minimum, and refraining from eating or drinking within the lab.

What do I need to use the Elab?
To use a machine in the Elab, you will need to login with your Active Directory username and password. If you however have not activated your computing accounts or have forgotten your username or password, simply login to MyLogin to retreive this information.
Can I get assistance when in the Elab?
Yes. You can get assistance from any of the staff at the Elab Counter. Opening hours for the Elab Counter can be found here. You can also check the IT Newswire for updates on opening hours during breaks and the Christmas closedown.
Please note that staff can only provide limited assistance, and are not able to help you with anything which directly assists in assignment production or completion or research. For assistance with these matters, please refer to your course lecturer or tutor.
Can I connect personal equipment to a Elab computer?
You are allowed to connect certain devices to a Elab computer including USB Thumb Drives and portable hard disks. However, you are not permitted to make any modifications to or disconnect any device from one of our computers in order to use your device.
Please note that by connecting personal equipment to our machines that you do so at your own risk. IT Support Services cannot be responsible for any failure, theft, data loss, or other event related to your use of personal equipment within the Elabs.
Am I able to use my own notebook and connect to the network within the Elabs?
Yes, Users are more than welcome to use their own Laptops and connect via the ECU Wireless network. For connection instructions, visit the ECU Wireless website or contact the friendly staff at the Elab Counter or IT Service Desk.
